Winnie the Pooh is the creation of A.A. Milne. Mr.
Milne's son, Christopher Robin Milne fell in love with a
Canadian black bear at a London Zoo named Winnipeg or
Winnie. The bear was little Christopher's favorite
animal at the zoo, and it became his inspiration for
naming his own teddy bear "Winnie" or "Winnie the Pooh".
Soon Christopher began to add other animals to his
collection - a rabbit, a piglet, a kangaroo, a donkey,
and last but not least a tiger.
Mr.
Milne was fascinated by his son's relationship to his
bear and the other animals, and it inspired him to write
a story about his son and his nursery animals. Mr.
Milner never intended for the stories to be published;
he was writing for his own amusement and that of his
sons. But...at the encouragement of his wife,
Daphne Milne, he wrote two books "Winnie the Pooh" in
1926, and "The House at Pooh Corner" in 1928; both were
illustrated by E. H. Shepard.
As
it so happened, these books were favorites of Walt
Disney's daughters. So Walt Disney Productions
bought film and other rights to the character, and in
1966, Walt Disney brought "Pooh Bear" to life in "Winnie
the Pooh and the Honey Tree".
Over
the years, this "silly old bear" and his friends have
charmed their way into our homes and our hearts on
videos, holiday specials, and even a TV series.
They are loved by the young and young at heart.
